LEASE ON HSBC BUILDING ONE STEP NEARER

We are delighted to announce what we see as a further significant step forward in setting up an arts and community centre in Wellington Town Centre.
We have been in negotiations with HSBC with a view to establishing a short term lease on the vacant bank building at Station Road in the town and some time ago, had agreed with them the basic terms for a sublease. The position has been complicated because HSBC do not own the freehold and their lease with their landlord required them to get certain consents from their landlord to go ahead.
These have now been obtained and we have submitted a planning application to Telford & Wrekin Council. The planning application process requires a 21 day consultation period before a planning decision is made and in this period we will be working with HSBC and their agents to get a sublease set up.
While we do not want to get ahead of ourselves, we expect to get a lease drawn up in the near future and all our energies are now focused on planning for this.
This announcement will be part of a series of announcements over the next few weeks where we will provide further information on the project. In the meantime, we would confirm that we have arranged a meeting of members, supporters and friends at the King Street Café in Wellington on 15th February 2018 at 18.30 to which everyone is warmly invited where we will set out further our plans for the building as well as discussing our response to the recently submitted planning application for the development of the Bridge Street buildings in the town that include the old Clifton cinema.
